A Tribute to Jack Charlton

Players and managers pay tribute to the late Jack Charlton. Of course Big Jack was a one-club man, playing for Leeds United his whole playing career. He was centre half in the great England World Cup winning team of 1966. When he'd finished playing he then managed The Republic of Ireland to great success.

In this video we see tributes from players such as Billy Bremner, John Charles and Vinnie Jones. Managers Howard Wilkinson and Sir Alf Ramsey. Even Brian Clough is there saying good things about Jack!

The History of Morley

Morley appraisal

Although this document is titled as a conservation area appraisal the really fascinating content is the historical development of Morley. We learn that Queen Street was called Middle Thorpe until the 1850s. And Commercial Street was Back Lane. During the 19th century Morley changed from a village to a busy mill town. Agriculture wise it is known for being in Yorkshire's Rhubarb Triangle.

It has interesting maps of Morley as it was and good quality photographs. Included are pictures of Morley Bottoms, mills and churches. And of course the magnificent Morley Town Hall. Note that it is in PDF format: Morley conservation appraisal.

Shopping in Leeds

We have the pleasure of being able to shop at a number of fabulous retail palaces. This is in line with Leeds being the largest city in West Yorkshire and the third largest city in the UK. The biggest shopping centre in town is the recently opened Trinity Leeds which houses prestige shops such as the Apple Store, Hollister and Cult as well as loads of other top shops to tempt shoppers from all around. You'll also find the art house Everyman cinema complex there as well.

Then there's the Victoria Quarter for the luxury end of the market with one of the few Harvey Nichols stores outside of London. Briggate, of course, has traditionally been the main street in Leeds for buying fashion clothes, footwear and other goods. If you want to buy something special then it may be worth paying a visit to the various independent bijou businesses located in the Corn Exchange. Here, you will find the likes of jewellery, retro clothes and other fashionable bits and pieces.

For out of town shopping you've got the White Rose centre which is out on the Dewsbury road close to Morley. This is the only place to find the famous Disney Store in Leeds.
